A place to share running experiences, rants and other general "stuff"

Day 4 is being cancelled

Well yesterday was a very busy day for me n I didn’t manage to get out n do anything, which sucks, but I’ve decided I’ll ignore it. I was still good eating wise and it was my mum’s birthday so went for tex mex, stopped eating just before full and chose things without cheese or too much sour cream.

I feel this counts!

Day 3

Today has been absolutely crap weather so the only running I’ve been doing so far has been dashing from flat to flat at work and from car to shops…does that count?!

I did some strength training in the 75 mins I’ve not been at work today. Jeez! I’ve discovered my muscles are rubbish and am surprised they can hold my body up let alone move it! 35 mins of reverse crunches, sit ups, lunges, scissors and 1 leg squats n I was glad to go to work.

I might try n go round the block at least when I get home later..

Ok so I just “ran” to the chippy for a client as they wanted scampi n chips for dinner…willpower do not fail me now! I’ve already turned down a free KFC offered by my step dad in favour of jacket potato with chicken. I might just pinch one chip as I’ve just burnt off 43 calories getting it!

Janathon 2nd Day

So 2nd day today n woke up feeling slightly achey after yesterday’s efforts. Immediately get told I’ve kept my bf up for around 2 hours by snoring to which I laugh and tell him it’s a very nice change! Then felt guilty, apologised and asked why he didn’t wake me up, apparently coz I don’t wake him up when he snores. Bless!

Anyway after eating weetabix n waving Carl off to work I decide to get ready for a jog even tho it’s now 10:45 and I’ve got to pick up a client at 12pm.

Today was a beautiful day but a bit windy and I was pleased I managed the 5k on my tired legs. The route is pretty hilly and I def need to do some strength training as I’m just not strong enough.

2nd day of healthy eating is going well too! Still no smoothies made yet tho..

Latest activities

So after my last blog I was full of motivation to become a lean, mean, running machine and ran the day after. It was a good run and I was pleased I’d squeezed it in as I actually ran to a staff meal and got changed there!

To cut a long story short that was the end of my being healthy and running…..until today!

Arrived home a little squiffy around 3:15am and crawled into bed. Alarm went off at 7:10 and crawled back out again at 7:50am. Def not feeling it! Managed to get some weetabix down me n drink half a pint of water n headed off.

Today is the first Sunday joining the marathon training group. Was supposed to be a 10miler but it was decided we would head out for 45 mins then turn back which was fine by me as most I’ve run in last 6 months is 5 miles! Jogged the whole way n Nike tells me it was just under 9.1 miles and 1008 calories.

Scales screamed at me to get off when I thought I’d check the damage…now 10st 11lbs 3/4….only punishment I can give myself is to not buy any clothes/shoes until I’ve lost 7lbs. This should work!

A good start

Feeling like I had a lot to improve on I hit the lanes with my other half Carl and we spent 3 hours practicing. I’d forgotten just how much I know as I try to teach him to aim for a break point and make him understand why we watch the ball roll…he seemed to get it after a bit but whether he’ll remember any come tomorrow is a different matter.
Anyway, I was so happy I’d bowled amazing better we treated ourselves to Subway before heading off to bingo. Yes, we do go every week! And then, having won £50 (although total spent was £140ish!), treated ourselves to all you can eat chinese!!

As you can imagine I wasn’t looking forward to weighing myself this morning — 148lbs oops! Then decided to measure myself for some more home truths and motivation.

Here goes:
Waist 80cm
Hips 103cm
Tops of thighs 106cm
Bust 92cm

So this means I’ve put on at least 6cm everywhere since the Brighton marathon in April. Definitely more motivation there!

Today I went for 30mins before work and ran (apparently) 3.8miles but I think prob more 3.5/6. I’ve bought the Nike+ GPS now for my phone so will know for def in future. It’s a shame Audiofuel and Nike don’t team up as that’d be a great running app.
Afterwards I felt really good and so pleased I managed to fit it in before work.

Grub wise today I’ve had 1slice seeded toast with light butter, 3 biscuits, healthy choices Thai green curry with rice and another slice of bread n butter. “My fitness pal” app is saying I haven’t eaten enough calories and, looking back at that, can see I need more fruit and veg. Maybe I’ll make some smoothies…anyone know any good recipes?

Oooh dear

Well I haven’t blogged for a while as I’ve been far too busy very lazy and eating junk food again which made me too ashamed to blog about eating more chinese and dominos after I’d said I was going to be good! Although I have been working a lot of hours – just over 300 in November!

On the plus side I have run a few times to work n had a PB of 25:38 for 5k which smashes my 30:01 I previously had. Used the Audiofuel app and just ran to the beat :)

Not only my running has suffered due to lack of time but my ten pin bowling scores have seriously decreased and also my waist/hip/bum measurements have increased. If I can get these to swap around I’ll be a happy bunny!

So I’ve signed up for Janathon and WILL be running everyday and blogging too.

The new year has to be better, I must try harder! More running, more bowling, eating more healthily – I shall be trying to have a juice or soup everyday as per Jason Vale “juice master.”

I do know that we’ve still got 14 days left of this year so perhaps I should start now. I just had a Tracy Chapman song on my iPod and the lyrics inspired me which is why I’m blogging again now!

If not now then when
If not today then
Why make your promises
A love declared for days to come
Is as good as none

You can wait ’til morning comes
You can wait for the new day
You can wait and lose this heart
You can wait and soon be sorry

Now love’s the only thing that’s free
We must take it where it’s found
Pretty soon it may be costly

If now now what then
We all must live our lives
Always feeling
Always thinking
The moment has arrived

A long old week

So after my first run on Monday I decided to run again on Tuesday to work. It’s not far, 3.03 miles to be exact, but I figured time on your feet and all that. I used the Audiofuel app again but was annoyed that it had a bug and wouldn’t let me download another track so I had to stick with the mid interval training run…I could’ve just listened to my iPod but I wanted the calories and mileage.

The run itself was pretty good, found it relatively easy compared to the Monday effort but I suspect it may be as the route was flat! Only problem was I didn’t lock my iPhone screen and it stopped after 1 mile…I restarted it so nit a major problem but a bit annoying as I’d just got to the “peak” of the intervals and then had to start again!

Was planning to go on Friday after work and lunch with a friend but 8 hours later we were still sitting in the pub n I was too shattered to bother! (was only drinking diet coke so not coz I was too squiffy!)

Food wise I’ve been pretty good, other than a full English today, n made vegetable soup, had jacket potatoes and scoffed rocket salad….gave some to my mum to try n she spat it in the bin! That’s gratitude for ya!

Summary of this week:

Total hours worked: 67.5
Total mileage: 5.03
Total run time: 51:47
Total calories burnt: 564

First day back

So after eating countless KFC, Dominos, TGI Friday’s, Chinese etc etc I’m back on the wagon! I really need to get my life sorted out as I’m always late, disorganised and tired and I actually hate feeling like this. This morning I was raring to get started – got out of bed when my alarm went off (well ok after 1 snooze) weighed myself (10st 9lbs!! Oops!) had cornflakes, then off to see my first client. Got my hair done, came home and got changed after lots of umming and ahhing as to whether I had time to run, then set out armed with new iPhone (4s I may add :D ) and audio fuel downloaded. I opted for the medium interval training and it was great! (Note to self – best to do this on flat as sprinting up hills = knackered!!) Yes I found it hard but it was a good hard…yes I felt sick and felt like stopping but persevered and felt great afterwards. The guy talking you through it was really good and made it feel manageable, plus I liked it mapped on GPS and gave you your stats.

Motivation to keep going:
10st 9lbs puts me in the overweight category as I’m 5′ 5″ = def not good
Milton Keynes marathon 29th April 2012 in under 4:30
Feeling like crap, tired and spending lots of money to feel this way!

Well hello there!

I’ve decided to start a blog as I need some motivation to keep running. Last year I signed up for the Brighton Marathon as I wanted to raise money for Macmillan nurses who were great when my dad had cancer. Since the marathon I’ve not had the inclination to keep going other than a run here and there…I do love it once I’m out and about it’s just the getting out I struggle with!

So I’ve signed up for the Milton Keynes marathon in April next year to give me a target, and I want to do it in 4hrs 30 (or less!!) I completed Brighton in 5:08 which was partly due to heat but mainly due to sticking with my struggling friend for the first 16 miles before leaving her…think I would have managed 4:55 otherwise.

I look forward to dusting off my trainers and freezing my butt off…. :)
